Vauxhall launches lifetime new car warranty #

Vauxhall has just announced that its cars are now covered by a lifetime warranty from the first day of registration
The warranty will apply to the first owner of any Vauxhall registered after August 1 2010 and will cover the car until it reaches 100,000 miles, no matter how many years that takes.
A further programme is planned which will enable the second owner of the car to purchase the lifetime warranty.

Do you think other munufactures will follow?

Another way of excluding the aftermarket ?
annual inspection to get servicing as well
whats betting the extended warranty to second owners will be insurance based to exclude us!

I think owners will need to read the small print very carefully. After 30 to 40K the amount paid by GM will drop, over 80K the customer will have to pay 60% of the cost, not sure if the warranty will cover all labour and diagnosis costs

I can see this being open to abuse and disputes over who pays what

Customer will still have to pay normal servicing costs. A visit once a year to a dealer does not mean they have to have any recommended work done at the dealer. Having it serviced at an Independent will not invalidate their warranty under the new BER

Just seen the Chevrolet Advert on TV,

Called the 5 Year promise,
5 year warranty, 100,000 miles, 5 year roadside assistance, including 5 year servicing, vehicle checks and Mot (by Authorised dealers only)and includes MOT fees of up to £750 per year.

Shouldn't the details be provided before they take your hard earned cash. ?? I bet the exclusions are in there too.

Those of us on this side of the pond can rest easy for now as it appears the lifetime warranty is only available in the UK and Germany.

Different manufacturer but recently had two issues with "Free Servicing"
First customer was dissapointed to find deal was provided by now defunct dealer.
Second surprised to recieve an invoice on collecting car. On pointing out the error, was then told off for not booking a "Free Service".

Seem to recall Volvo offering something similar many years ago, only to find it cost them an absolute fortune and they withdrew it and also 'lost' people's service books so that they hadn't got a record of servicing at the dealer to claim on the warranty later or when car was sold on.

It's a great way to mortgage your business, sell the cars today whilst in the depression on the basis of the warranty, then hoep that not too many people claim on the warranty tomorrow.

I'm betting that GM will withdraw this offer as soon as it costs them too much and once they start selling cars well again.

Certainly nothing in the build qulaity to say that they are good enough for a lifetime warranty.

ha ha i had a customer who had the volvo lifetime warranty he paid a fortune in servicing when his osf window failed they informed him that the part is only covered for the lifetime of the part which was three years he was blazing i fixed the window and he sold the car !

warranty = smallprint written by bean counters

I remember that one, The Big Boss had a volvo 740 estate and I can't think of a single time the warranty worked

The way the VM's get out of a lot of warranty is to make the item a "service" item, which are excluded.
I wonder how many new "service" items we are going to see.

I will ask my father to get all the small print for my perusal, as last week he ordered a new Mariva but cannot take delivery until last week of October as they have to make it first.

I have heard of the same wait for a new vehicle,the VM's are not stocking much these days.
They must still be smarting from the last couple of years trading.

Hi Mark

yes he has to wait and they offered him a crap price for his 09 plate Astra onl 6k on the clock so i will be taking it off his hands, new bike and car in one year the piggy bank is now bare.

Back to the warranty they have not mentioned anything about lifetime warranty only the fact that he will get the normal 3 years. Dad is going to ask about it when he speaks to the salesman again.
