Halfords Autocentres fined £47,000 #

Halfords Autocentres have just been fined £47,000 for missing 11 out of 20 defects?, but checked them off on the check sheet

I noticed that Halfords Autocentres have an "ata" Automotive Technicians Accreditation logo on their website? That should boost the confidence of the consumer when they are looking for an ATA workshop to service their vehicle

Best advice for motoring consumers is to find a good Independent Garage (preferably by word of mouth) and stick with them or just search for a UKAT member

Excellent news, that brightened my day up Peter - thanks.

Our local Halfords is also a disreputable business unfit to trade.

I suspect this is a national issue with this outfit.

I agree with you on that Peter, I have been saying for years that these signs for the likes of ATA, Good Garage and others are a waste of time and money, it only takes one company like this to con the public and not get their membership revoked, and it brings all the other members down to the same level as far as the customers are concerned, so word of mouth it is, it has worked for me now since 1981, and Jon you only have to talk to the lads that work at QF and Halfords to get to know what they are told to do to customers cars to bring in more work. It's just been reported in the financial press that Halfords turnover reached one billion pounds in the last financial year.
I'd hazard a guess and say that this won't make much of a dent in their profits, or cause the senior management to lose much sleep.
Major players like Halfords are similar to big banks, they are pretty much a law unto themselves.
Any financial penalties are just seen as part of the cost of doing business.

They now will not change a mk 1 KA headlamp bulb as access is impossible,take bumper off, remove headlamp, 10 minutes, Scenics also along same lines, saw a dealer bill in a mk 2 scenic recently for a bulb change, Â£90 !!!!, to change a bulb

After all the negative publicity about all these fast fits, you cant really feel sorry for customers who still take there cars to these places.
As for Peters observation about Halfords and ATA, how can they retain any credibility, and are they another money making opportunity for business rather than the customer?
