The ecu will stop injection on any cylinder where a misfire is detected. The injector will be reset when the ignition is turned off and then on.
There was an ECU update for an EGR fault that would give you this fault, the EGR is programmed to be open for to long thus carbon will deposit on the valves. The main dealer will have a special reamer to open up the valve guides as they are aware of this problem.
