In the past what i've done is hold open the valve on the EGR to its full extent then cut it off as far up the stem as possible. This way the valve stem still moves and the ECU will think its still fitted and have feedback voltage.
Re-fit the egr valve and a blanking gasket and all works ok as ecu still thinks the egr is working but its not actually recirculating any gasses so so carboned up valve.
