I think your problem may be with the swirl pot in that it cannot fill quick enough due to the part that acts as a one way valve restricting the fuel from entering it. I have removed this on a Punto before with no noticable side effects for the customer. A fuel pressure and flow check will show this up. Schrader valve on the fuel rail so hook up is easy.
