I think you'll have to hook up a few circuits and run it until it plays up again and try to narrow down where the problem lies through what signals you loose. Just out of curiosity I would purposely stall the car to see what happens regarding the fuel gauge and steering light when the car cuts out. It wouldn't surprise me if there is more than one fault. I think you'll have to do some more testing and tell us what you have managed to eliminate (spark, injector switching, fuel pressure, ecu power and ground etc).
