My thoughts are that if the ECU is not happy with the O2 sensor heating circuit ( i.e fault code ) it will quite possibly ignore any o2 information from it and work in a default mode.

I don't know the ECU strategy on this particular model, but have certainly experienced this on other brands.

I think you have no option but to address the heater circuit fault code.
