Thanks for the assistance and sorry for the poor information. At the time that was all we had and wasn't sure where to start. We checked fuel pressure as suggested which was correct and before we could check anything else the MIL came on showing a crankshaft sensor fault. Replaced the sensor and all is good.
Not sure how to show this is fixed first time I've posted and rectified.
