Hi Paul, 95% of non starting HDI engines Ive had in is due to low/no fuel pressure. The most common is the low pressure pump in the tank followed by the high pressure pump on the engine.
The low pressure pump should provide about 3 bar to the engine bay.The high pressure pump you need to be carefull with when these go they can (+ do) break up and pass metal through to the injectors and back into the tank, which then ruins the new pump you fit.The system needs about 200 bar in the rail before the injectors will be operated.
The injectors are the expensive part of the system so cover youself well.
