Sorry in the delay in getting back to you Alan. The answer to your question yes. The immobiliser takes over the k-line and communicates with the ECU during the starting phase. When this procedure is completed , the immobiliser then passes diagnostic communications via itself to the ECU. This means that a fault with the immobiliser where its comms link with the ECU fails means you cannot acheive communication with the ECU , however you might still be able to communicate with the immobiliser as this is connected directly to the diagnostic plug. For this reason , many people blame the ECU when they cannot get communication , where it is as likely to be an immobiliser fault.
