As stated the CAS signal picks up interferance from the starter which is why you're seeing 1500 - 2000 rpm on data + normally the rev counter bounces quite a bit.The reason I had said to check it with a scope is so that you can use this opportunity to see(or save) a good example of a bad signal for the next time you get one in thats an auto and can't be towed to start.
