    Hi John. The fault with the starter motors is caused due to arcing where the brushes contact the communtator, The ones that we have done have all had around 80-100,000 miles and had oil contamination. And when they are stripped down, you can actually see a bad spot on the communtator where the brushes don't touch properly. We have reconditioned the starter motors ourself to prove exactly what causes the problem. ( rather than just accepting that a faulty starter motor causes the problem ) And all that is normally required is for the commutator to be machined up, a new set of brushes, etc. But normally for good measure a new solenoid is fitted and sometimes a new drive.
