The most common reason I find for that fault code is the MAP sensor, although I have replaced a number of turbo's on ARL engines but the reason for that has always been a strange high speed misfire and excessive black smoke under hard acceleration. The MAP sensor (what VAG call a thrust sensor as it also incorporates the charge temp sender) is located in the boost pipe running across thee front of the engine and it’s just to the right of the oil filter as you look at the engine. The display group for this sensor is 011 and its readout is in zone 3. Often the sensor sticks at around 2840mbar constantly but the one you have may be sticking occasionally so you can't see it.
