I received the new map sensor in the post this morning, fitted it & the engine cut out when connected as it did before. So i checked the sensor with my vacuum pump connected & didn't get any change in voltage at all as with the other one.The person who had repaired the poor connection must have muddled up the wires ,because i found that the 5volt feed & the earth wires were the wrong way around! After changing the plugs the engine runs reasonably well with the lambda switching at approx 1 Hz at cruise although from 250mv to 900mv & not a perfect waveform(sort of triangular in appearance). The vacuum at idle is now approx 22"Hg(map sensor reading 1.08 volts),injector duration 2.4 ms, 1 amp current draw. The only thing that i'm still not happy with is the firing voltage of the primary waveform which is from 50 to 60 volts with a burn time of 1.3-1.4ms & coil current draw of 4amps.
For future reference the map sensor wires are green/white 5 volt feed furthest from bulkhead side of connector,white/black signal wire 4 volts engine not running4.5-4.9volts not connected, black earth/ground nearest bulkhead (less than 200mv).
sorry about the long post, thanks to Nick,Mike & James for their replies.
    Regards ,Andrew
