OK gents some good answers coming up now and some realy close if not bang on with reluctor damage. on this engine reluctor is in crankcase so once this was confirmed as a problem, gearbox and front of engine had to be removed to drop crank and change reluctor ring. The garage that had fitted head gasket assured me (for what its worth) that they had not put anything in the crank/ cps hole to lock it up or wedge it in anyway. during removal of crank all care was taken to ensure no debris was in sump and nothing could be seen that would cause damge so new ring was fitted on assumption the garage had done something to damage old reluctor. on completion of rebuild engine would not sstart, then it did and ran for 30 seconds and cut. WHAT NEXT??? Mike Old ring New ring
