    Hi Mike,
    Remove the the battery Negative & then the Massive air cleaner from the middle of the motor, you will then clearly see the Idle Speed Control Valve. Remove this and thoroughly clean in a good solvent (be careful though as the valve is now NLA).Re-assemble & re-connect battery, start the vehicle & allow to idle for a good five minutes before test driving. You are right with regards to diagnostic comms as this is all done with the use of an analogue multimeter and with a dwell reading for diagnostics. My past experience with these though has taught me to avoid them at all costs as they are now very old, very worn & very hard to get the spares for!
