Any split in the pipework will cause a high engine idle.After 20 years the pipes go hard and brittle.Check the air slide first (usually made by VDO).If this car is using the KE controller #0280 800272 ,then the idle speed controller can be located behind glove box,next to fuel pump relay and aircon relay (if fitted).MB #004 545 10 32.Btw all the info is on Bosch esi.hth
