Well another genuine VW supplied Air Mass meter seems to have cured the problem, been running ok for a month now with no problems, just got to retreive CRecorder now. I am told from info in Elsawin that 16556 code is well known to the dealerships as a fault code regarding incorrect information supplied to ECU by air mass meter, the altitude correction factor needs to be monitored under road test conditions and the air mass meter replaced if incorrect, then road tested again and if values still incorrect change air mass meter again !! and so on until figures acceptable, now we know why dealers carry so many mass meters! Many thanks for all the helpfull posts on this one, hope the above info will be of some use to someone, best regards Roger PS The customer thought CRecorder was the repair for the problem, seems she liked the little flashing blue LED !!
