As mentioned by others, we replaced the MAF sensor with a new unit (Vauxhall dealer no dearer than direct Bosch part and he said we could return it if necessary).Two good long test drives and so far fault has failed to return! Problem now fixed. I wish ECU manufacturers would take a look at their diagnostic strategies....it would be helpful if DTCs actually meant what they said! Thanks to all that responded. Regards Sean.
