Hi AllJust wondered if some of you have come across this recently, and a possible explanation
My others half's Mondeo 1.8 Zetec 93 has had an intermittent stall when you are braking coming up to junctions for a few weeks, so i used it for a few days, and it is stalling about 3 times every journey, but not consistant. I carried out all the usual checks, but could not see anything obvious.
I pulled the plugs out which have only been in about 5,000 miles, and thought i would put another set in from stock (out of desperation) ......that was when i noticed
The plugs i took out were NGK PTR5A-13, and the plugs we have in stock are PTR5A-10, which were supplied for this model. As i thought they were supplied wrong i rang the supplier, but they said that PTR5A-10 have replaced PTR5A-13. Obviously the PTR5A-10 have a smaller gap (1.0mm) as oppose to (1.3mm). Reluctantly i fitted them, but guess what!!....it cured the stalling
Why do NGK now recommend a plug with a smaller gap?.....do they know something we don't
The other strange thing is that if you look on the German NGK website, they still recommend the PTR5A-13, but if you look them up on the UK NGK website they recommend the PTR5A-10.
Sorry for the long post, but its one of those little things that niggle's, without an explanation
Peter
