Renault Clio 1.2 16v 2004 - How do you remove the engine ECU cover? #

Year of Manufacture *: 2004
Engine Code or Type *: 1.2 16v

The cars running like a hairy goat. Appears to have a misfire, but primary and secondary ignition patterns look good. New coil pack and leads already fitted. I can't discern exactly which cylinders are misfiring. It appears that cylinders 2 and 4 have the least effect on engine running. Spark voltages around 9 KV on cylinders 1,3 and 4. Cylinder 2 is around 6 KV.

There's only a vehicle speed sensor code and another one that has no description recorded. Will list that one tomorrow. I left it at work.

The only other thing I've noticed is the MAP reading in live data is around 750 mb. Actual vacuum is 20 in/mg. Map sensor voltage at idle is around 1.6 volts which rises to around 5 volts at atmospheric pressure which seems good to me?

Having read various other posts on here, I checked the metal bracket covering the ECU multiplug looking for damaged wiring. This is loose, but I can't see how this comes off! How do you remove this? I know it might seem like a daft question, but it was getting late!

Oh dear!! Sore fingers & lots of patience, Peter!! At the back of the stupid steel box to your left near the top, you will find a small oblong hole. With a mirror and torch, look into the hole and you will see a small wheel with holes drilled into it. Find a small screwdriver or allen key to fit the holes and insert into the hole and unscrew the bloody thing! Once you have seen it, you will know what I mean, Good Luck!!

Hi Peter, unbolt ecu(4 torx) & flip it over ,much easier than trying to do it in situ,sometimes you can get them really loose & they still don't come off,so insert small pry bar in gap & ping it off.

Thanks for that Tony, but if the tappets were tight, wouldn't this affect the manifold vacuum?

isn't the MAP reading a little low if its nor running with just ignition switched on as i thought it should read near atmospheric pressure so around 1000mb but i'm probably completely wrong.

Also i've asked the question before about actual vacuum taken with a vac gauge and the MAP sensor calculation and i was told that they are not the same thing which still confuses me but that's not to difficult.

Lee, I know what you mean, you do seem to get some very conflicting information from time to time.

It just so happens that I know have two identical Clio's in at the moment, so I've now got another one to compare my readings with. Things are a little hectic at the moment, so I'll probably have to wait until next week to get back onto this one.
