Vauxhall Vectra 2.6 2001 - Fault code P0340 camshaft sensor - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2001
Engine Code or Type *: Y26SE
( Optional ) ECU Type: ME3.1.1
( Optional ) Scanner used: Bosch KTS

Fault code present P0340.

Vehicle has come to us from another garage with the above fault code. You can clear the code when the ignition is on but it will return as soon as you start it. Another sensor has been fitted by the other garage.

We have checked the belt timing which is ok, we can get a good scope pattern at the sensor and also back up at the ecu.

Has anyone had any ecu problems with this sort of vehicle before I send this one away for checking / repair

Hi Richard,

On some Vauxhalls there has been an upgrade to these sensors with modification to the wiring. If yours is an after market type then it won't have the upgrade. Also, the main dealer here also changes the crank sensor as a matter of course.

I bet the new sensor is a Fuelparts brand!

I've fitted one to find the fault still there. After much faffing about I fitted a Bosch one from the dealers and the fault was cured!

Spoke to our local dealer today who tells me that there has been no problems with the 2.6 engine infact the only sensor they have sold is this one. I'll try and get a bosch one off A.Page 2moro if it's not that I'll be able to send it back anyway.

Have you scoped the cam and crank sensors at the same time to see if they line up ?

So your the XXXX that keeps buying parts and sending them back to Pages if they don't cure the job. ???

And I am usually the poor sod that gets the used parts, sometimes ok and sometimes faulty.

If you buy Electronic parts and fit them and it doesn't cure the job then you should not send them back as they are used components and should not be resold as new.

Carry out proper testing and you should not have to buy parts to try them, if you do buy them and they dont cure the job, keep them on your shelf for you to use next time.

Ditto,I have this chat quite regular with garages in my area, they will still fit inferior quality items based on cost supplied by factors,Intermotor, Fuelparts to name two, wrong way, my rule with anything management based is to fit OE parts and after advising customer they usually see the light, I don't need a vehicle coming back after a couple of weeks with a fault induced by crap aftermarket parts.

Dead Right Tony , Kevin and all others concerning second-rate replacement parts. There are some very good copy parts out there , but there is an awful load of crap. The problem with the parts suppliers and motor factor chains is that they have no real technical backup. They buy a batch of parts from a reliable source one month , and then their buyers will be offered what looks like a similar part a little cheaper and next month they are selling rubbish.
On one occasion we had a batch of genuine manufacturer original parts which we offered to one of the parts companies because we thought they may be interested. They said that they would only buy them if we removed the vehicle manufacturer's markings and supplied them at the same price as the garbage they were buying already so that they could change supplier easily if they were offered a 'better deal'!. I am not going to mention the name of the company but this is what users of these parts are up against.
Another problem is counterfeit parts and more commonly counterfeit packaging. We have seen junk (mostly from China) in boxes that are indistinguishable from Bosch , Ford etc. It is easy for a parts buyer and then his customer to be fooled.

Many thanks for all posts inc all those about returning parts you've fitted, I was only joking and totally agree about everything should come sealed and once opened you've no chance of returns.

Anyway back to the repair, I scoped both cam and crank at both sensors and at the ecu, both had good patterns.
I dual scoped and saw they were within limits so went for the ecu.
Fitted new ecu and all is ok.
