Vauxhall Meriva 1.8 Z18XE 2003 - Codes U2108, U2107, P1615, P1616 and U2104 #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
Engine Size and Code *: 1800 Z18XE
( Optional ) Scanner Used: SNAP ON SOLUS
( Optional) Fault Codes: U2108, U2107, P1615, P1616, U2104

The day after having the above vehicle in for service! On the customers way home the Traction Control and Battery Charge Light came on.
The next morning the car fired, then stopped and failed to start. We then had to recover the car. I then scanned the Meriva with a Snap On Solus and it presented the following codes:

U2108-CANBUS NO COMMS WITH ABS/TC.
U2107-CANBUS BCM STATUS NOT RECIEVED
P1615-BODY CONTROL MODULE WRONG VEHICLE ID
P1616-INST CONTROL MODULE WRONG ID
U2104-CANBUS RESET COUNTER OVERRUN.

Initially the codes would not clear. Likely to be coincidence i suspect but I unplugged and reconnected the crankshaft sensor and the car then started and allowed me to clear the codes. All seemed ok untill several days and journeys in the car later, car failed to start and all fault codes had returned. Sometimes the traction control and charge light are on and engine still runs.Have removed bcm and checked terminals all look perfect,removed inst panel and checked connections all look good,appears to be CAN fault but stuck for ideas now any tips/ideas much appreciated.

what are resistances across can lines
what are voltages can lines to earth
got a scope to check the can lines

just done a tigra that was non start due to faulty alternator i cant rember the fault code numbers but im sure we had some of those discriptions may be worth a loock at charging system

Do you have TECH2? If so, try re-program the CIM.

I didn't think these had a CIM unit fitted.

dont have a scope unfortunatly but i have borrowed a 16 pin breakout box with out instructions could you tell me were to take readings?have read in the archives about resistance between pin 6 + 14 that is 198kohms,biggest problem is the fault keeps coming and going,sometimes just the traction control light on and sometimes it wont start!

Hi Graham,
I'm not very experienced on CAN but the figures I have state that it should normally be about 60 ohms between those pins.
If you have borrowed the type of box sold by Snap-On or Pico the booklet is not much help but the flashing LED's should tell you if there is any activity.
Someone else may correct me if I'm wrong.

the resistance reading is wrong
as bryan smith above should be around 60 ohms
the fault codes you have relate to imobiliser,bcm,instruments etc according to gm tis
u really need gm tis and wiring diagrams/locations to proceed further or a lot of guessing

thanks for that mark i had more or less come to same conclusion but after checking all wiring and connections i could find it has been ok for a week now .going to let customer have it back tommorow and hope for best.
I have found a local mobile guy with tech 2 who will look at it if it does it again
