Vauxhall Vectra 2.2 Z22YH 2006 - Will not rev over 2000 rpm, very flat #

Hi

Vectra won't rev above 2000 rpm very flat has anyone got a crank vs cam waveform thinking timing might be out.

Any info on checking high pressure pump and fuel pressure regulator could also be helpfull thanks

Consider also blocked exhaust/cat and MAF if you haven't already done so.

Hi Pete thanks for response ,yeh checked both there ok ,starts straight away no problem a bit lumpy at idle ,chain not noisy I know they have issues with fuel pump and regulators ,in live data everything looks good ,put fuel pressure gauge on valve at pump good pressure it doesn't rise when revved though not sure if this is correct or not thanks again garry

Hi Garry,

Would be an idea then to see what the inlet manifold vacuum is which could indicate a mechanical fault as you have indicated. Unless I am very much mistaken, fuel pressure should be constant throughout the rev range. I assume you have checked the fuel filter. If you have a gas analyser, high HC readings could indicate a mechanical fault.

Are you chasing any fault codes here?

Check to see if there is a "pre-cat" section between the exhaust manifold and the pre cat O2 sensor ...

No fault codes and don't think there's a pre cat section removed pre lambda sensor still won't rev I have a cam vs crank waveform but don't have a good one to compare with going to do vacuum test tomorrow. Don't want to have to strip down to check timing unless necessary .

Be sure it has no pre cat...

Removing the 02 sensor will not make a difference if it has a pre cat and is blocked... double check.. remove the three bolts that secure the down pipe to the manifold, start and rev engine with down pipe disconnected...

I've very rarely seen this type fuel system but I would've expected fuel pressure to alter in live data (direct injection system isn't it) under different engine loads as I'm sure the one I had in altered fuel pressure from idle to WOT.

On my problem car it was over pressurising due to a faulty regulator and the actual compared to desired fuel pressure was miles apart which eifher forced it into limp or shut the car down completely.

Is your gauge only checking the low pressure side of the fuel system.

Hi lee in live data desired and actual match, fuel pressure measured at Schneider valve at fuel pump (end of cam) think it was about 6000 kpa not rising when revved.

I don't know why but I think 6000 kpa is correct (60bar) at idle and increases with engine speed upto around 120bar but I'm not sure if your measuring the lp side as said before.

I doubt you'd have a conventional fuel pressure gauge connected up to schreader type valve fitting measuring hp side.

I always thought you could see a sort of common rail diesel type setup although its a petrol direct injection. Still uses an engine driven high pressure pump (camshaft drive) and a fuel rail with pressure sensor mounted in it and then a pressure control device/fuel pressure regupator.

Not sure what low pressure supply should be but doesn't autodata offer any help.

Hi lee thanks for link but already looked at that unfortunately it doesn't show cam crank waveform.
Think I can lend one off another garage tomorrow to gat some good readings.

I,m sure Tech 2/MDI would help you more at this stage.Only yesterday i was called out to another garage to a nonstart 06 zafira, "it,s got two codes in the Engine control unit" They were using an up to date snappy, Nope it,s got three using Tech2

I don't know as I'm confused between kpa and bar.

1kpa = 0.01bar doesn't it.

So 100kpa = 1bar which means 600kpa = 6bar (maybe intank pump working pressure) so 6000kpa =60bar could be high pressure reading at idle from live data.

Thats all I was saying along the lines of don't know how you mechanically check high pressure pump other than via live data.

Hi

Low pressure supply pump pressure is about 4-5 bar. Tech2 live data doesn't show low pressure on live data.

High pressure data should show 4999kpa as a desired pressure and of course the system should try to achieve it.

If it cant you should be looking at the high pressure system.

I use the Pico and WPS to check LP vs fuel reg duty vs fuel rail pressure sensor.

If the duty cycle is high on the pressure reg [around 90%] the PCM is instructing it to open and supply more pressure.

I don't think PL will alter much during the rev range.

You say you have checked the MAF. How? Did you scope it against O2 to see if you are getting adequate voltage and mixture?

Sorry , I don't have a known good cam vs crank trace.

I scoped the maf everything looked good but peaking at 4 volts thought possibly slightly low but didn't think the power would be as bad as it is but tried a new maf too be sure but no change.thanks for your input ,was supposed to be getting a 2.2 from another garage today but its not finished yet hopefully tomorrow.

Same car came in about a month ago with a misfire turned out it had no oil in it but when topped up it ran well also motor on swirl flaps was seized but that also fixed now ,not ruling out jumped chain Paul but if I can get this other 2.2 vectra too test would make life easier although starting to think if I'd stripped it down at least I know by now ha

Hi Darren I've got one off this vectra but not one to compare it with got the loan of another 2.2 vectra but it was a 2003 which is different engine so still looking fortunately customer not in a hurry so been put to one side for now. But would still like a good trace from one if possible

Hi Garry. May be wrong here so don't shoot me down. I think if you you put a volt meter at pressure switch and put ign on you should get a reading of .6volts. When started at tickover should rise to .1.5 volts. This voltage should rise with the more you rev. If not I would suspect high pressure pump. About Â£380.

Forgot to mention that the .6volts is the pressure from the low pressure pump. Engine will run from the pressure from this pump but will not rev above 2500.
