I could see the civil war in Sri Lanka coming two years before it began

Easy one for the Times. I was in Sri Lanka in 1980, both in Sinhalese and Tamil lands, on an assignment. It was obvious trouble was brewing, especially in the Tamil enclaves. All the ordinary Tamils looked thoroughly pissed off. Times reporting this in 1981 .. sure. Not much of a rocket science.
