But I am a bit weirded-out by the left, since in the real world immigration is actually all about cheap labor: Turks in Germany, central americans in the US, etc. etc. I thought this was anathema to the left. It certainly is for me. It is the globalist dream - the cheapest possible labor markets.
We should be completely tolerant of immigrants, but why are we in favor of smashing up middle eastern countries then creaming off people to do the dirty jobs in our own countries + creaming off some of their educated elite that we don’t have to pay to educate? Why do people think our elites allowed so many “migrants” to enter quite liberally? Because they care about peoples’ wellbeing do you really think?
I’ve yet to see a clear explanation - it just seems like rather wooly thinking to me. We should be in favor of actual real, tangible development in their countries of origin, it seems to me, primarily, so they can share some of the benefits we have without actually moving.
In this sense, the current bru-ha-ha is not so clear-cut to me. The left has given the other side the anti-global-corporatist agenda, which really should be ours, while screaming that the other side are fascist.
