The DNC convention is a sign of a dying empire

The empire has survived for this long because most of the public were split between those who think it doesn’t exist and those who think it’s a force for good. Now, it’s impossible to argue either of those things because we’ve just seen the empire revelling in its own barbarity in the most sickening spectacle.

When Democrats did the meme at the DNC convention, covering their ears and wearing rainbow bands while protesters read out names of the dead in Gaza, it sent out the message loud and clear: we do not give a fuck about our victims.

It was the clearest example that the Democrats’ support for human rights is performative, that they’ve co-opted wokeness to trick young people into supporting them, that they are every bit as sinister as Republicans. It would be hard for anyone who saw the child with his skull hollowed out and then saw these ghouls laughing at protesters - yes, some of them were laughing - and conclude we’re dealing with anything other than evil.

The convention was the perfect opportunity for the Democrats to dupe voters into thinking Kamala Harris’ leadership would represent a break from the past, that she would be less warmongery (that’s definitely a real word) than Joe Biden. All they had to do was emphasise peace, even if they were doing so without a sliver of sincerity, and give a platform to Palestinians like they gave a platform to Israelis, but that was too much to ask. Pretending for even a day that they see Palestinians as human beings was too much to ask.

Instead, we saw them stubbornly refuse to let Palestinians speak - they practically recoiled at the idea, and they chanted and cheered for every bit of genocidal propaganda. This was the convention of a war party that does not feel the slightest remorse for what they’ve done for the past ten months. The Democrats do not feel sympathy for the child with his head hollowed out. They would blow up the rest of his family without blinking and then they would chant “Bring them home”.

We saw token progressive AOC posing with someone holding a “Bring him home” sign, and now Zionists are celebrating bringing AOC over to their side. They’re calling it a “total victory” as Palestinian voices are purged from the Democrats like Corbynistas were purged from Labour. Remember, election interference is good when Israel does it.

The uncommitted pro-Palestinian delegate received a call from the DNC giving them a flat out No, there will not be a Palestinian on stage. The Democrats are not just erasing Palestinians in Gaza, they’re erasing them at home too. Even elected officials and groups supportive of Harris have criticised the decision to not allow Palestinians to speak.

We had to watch as Israelis were marched on stage to explain why genocide is necessary and pretend this is the progressive position. The crowd shed tears for Israelis and covered their ears for Palestinians, and I can’t think of a more powerful way to turn people away, but the system is so rigged, Americans do not have a meaningful alternative.

At one point, Michelle Obama was boasting that Democrats don’t have to cheat to win like Republicans, and they’re the ones who will save democracy, ignoring how they’re always suing to keep Greens off the ballot, how they’ve been compromised by a foreign power, how they‘ve censored the shit out of Facebook and YouTube, and how they once rigged a primary against Bernie Sanders. If you’re the guy who thinks the Democrats believe in Democracy, I’m gonna assume you’re the guy who thinks the stripper likes you.

The only group Democrats like are the lobbyists who give them money, but they were desperate to show you they support every minority group… apart from Palestinians. They had women dressing up in white in memory of the Suffragettes, they had black women talking of Kamala Harris taking her “black job”, they had rainbow bands everywhere, and don’t get me wrong, I’m supportive of diversity when it’s done in a sincere manner, but these people want to put rainbows on bombs and have a black female face for corporate greed. They do not care about an equal society, they want to shuffle things around so you think progress is being made.

From what I’ve gathered, the only substantive difference between Republicans and Democrats is Republicans want to get rid of all the immigrants and Democrats want to bring in more. Other than that, and their branding, you’re basically looking at the same party.

Democrats were excited that they received the backing of Republicans such as Adam Kinzinger, but don’t dare call this a uniparty. One hilarious moment came when an interviewer was asking attendees to name their favourite Kamala Harris policy and none of her fans could name one. Say what you want about Bernie Sanders (and I certainly have my criticisms), but his supporters would never have had difficulty discussing his policies. Liberalism is a vacuum of celebrity worship and atrocity denial.

As one Twitter user called Prof Zenkus pointed out so beautifully in a thread, just look at the people who aren’t welcome at the DNC: the people who oppose genocide, who want Medicare for All and a living wage, who want an end to homelessness, etc. Uncommitted delegates wearing keffiyehs were barred from taking their seats and Hasan Piker was removed for calling out the Democrats for their treatment of Palestinians. The Grayzone were filming at the DNC so YouTube blocked their live stream, but please tell me more about Russian election interference.

The only people who are welcome at the DNC are the mindless idiots who scream hysterically every time a good media performer tells a joke. Liberals were excited by substance-free performances from the Obamas and some guy who thinks he’s a communist and calls Donald Trump a “scab”. Not sure how that works, a scab is a worker who crosses a picket line, but whatever, the people who think their party is on the side of workers got excited and that’s what matters.

Kamala Harris is determined to tell you she is the person to fix the problems caused by a party that’s been in power for 12 of the last 16 years, which is weird because I was told the US economy is doing brilliantly and Joe Biden is the most progressive president ever. Are we now saying he has been shit? Or that everything is shit and it’s not his fault?

For what it’s worth, I think Kamala Harris is going to win in November. As much as she is awful when she is unscripted, she can perform well on stage and will likely maul Trump in debates, and when she is president, do you know what is going to change? Not a damn thing. Well, not policy-wise, but I suspect we are going to see a seismic shift in public perception when we get another “most progressive president ever” and all we get is more bloodshed. Call me a dreamer, but I think this could finally be the breaking point.
