I remember vividly one early brouhaha that ran for days in the press about the similarly "inappropriate" "sexualized" comments made by Salmond which were shocking enough to create a media reportable "incident" at Edinburgh Airport: the words he uttered apparently so unreapeatable that the media were not prepared to even put them in print.
