https://mobile.twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/860579728318750721?lang=en JK Rowling, the author of this laboured satire, apparently has ten million followers who are mainly young. According to one calculation in the Independent, 2500 extra votes in key marginals might have made Labour the main party in June of 2017. By merely refraining from years of obsessive denigration she might arguably have put Corbyn closer to number 10. But that she might not wish to do. What turned the tide in Corbyn’s favour after the May local elections was the publication of the Manifesto. That concentrated minds on what Labour would actually do to reverse New Labour austerity-lite. Distracting them that programme is the New Labour programme Rowling and her showbiz New Labour allies sincerely believe that Labour, now neck and neck, would surge ahead in the polls if it replaced Corbyn with a Mr/Ms X and boldly offered a straight referendum binary choice between May’s Deal and a more likely return to the EU. They believe all this strongly but without evidence. gb
