it was an inter-imperialist dispute until the sensation in 1940, which knocked France out of the war and made the USSR vastly more vulnerable than in 1939 when Stalin did an eastern version of the Munich Agreement. The Soviet regime wasn't imperialist in the sense of the western slave empires but Great Russian nationalism had overtaken Bolshevism by 1921 at the latest. The Trots then seem like the advocates of the Kurds now; superficial and wrong-headed.
