The pretence that a) the UK was there it fight IS, and b) that otherwise IS would come back to bite us, is both a lie and incredibly hubristic.

Whats pretty fascinating is the great hiatus in war reporting surrounding the Western supposed war on Isis/ al Qaeda. What we usually see in these cases are imbedded reporters drawing the maps, explaining the strategy, puffing up the latest action and reporting the results.

We got nothing at all: merely reports that USUK NATO had supposedly been on yet another bombing mission.
The very few times we did get more info it because it was the Syrian army they were bombing, or strategic bridges to protect Isis/ al Qaeda forces, so we have no real idea what they have been up to in general. Herd-bombing has been mooted: i.e. shepherding ISIS by means of bombs to push confrontation with Syrian army lines, but I don't think we have a clue at all what they have been doing with all those expensive bombs: they might have been bombing empty sand dunes for all we know, just so they were known to be in action "doing something..."
