To clear up the minor matter first. I never said, and don't propose, that the BBC shouldn't report the "One Million" march. My point was that they instantly take the organisers own estimate of one million and run it in their headlines. If you had any experience of taking part in a demo in the UK and then seeing the BBC coverage of it, you would know that they ALWAYS underplay the numbers when it's a cause (anti-war, anti-austerity, pro-Palestine etc etc) they don't agree with. But not in this instance. Several tweeters have tried to do an estimate from aerial shots of the crowd and all of them come up with a figure around 220,000. So not even a quarter of the figure the BBC headlined its reports with. "People are allowed to change their minds". As someone has already pointed out, the government wasn't keen to see another Scottish referendum on leaving the UK, was it? And if we were to run a second referendum on EU membership, what's to stop me demanding a third, fourth and so on vote because, as I might argue, "people are allowed to change their minds". And I can well imagine the outraged reactions if we had decided to stay in the EU by 52-48 and I now demanded a re-run because "people are allowed to change their minds." Christ, there would have been apoplexy.
