I think the reaction lacks balance - the problem perceived with the story seems to be not that people would be executed, but the person telling us about it is disliked. The reasons for the dislike aren't strictly relevant, but could have been given as criticism along with relaying the story. I wasn't "praising" or "applauding" Clooney, and neither did the BBC report. The answer to someone pointing out adhom shouldn't be more attacks - that misses the point. The message WAS useful - I didn't know anything about Bruneii, and I'm sure many others are the same. I know about the Clooneys; I only bothered partly because Ed's post also gave the wrong impression it was another of these so-called PC LBGT stories, when in fact it was about authoritarianism and state violence - topics that should be of interest here, except when personal dislikes come before our own values. I agree about calling the media but that wasn't part of Ed's post nor mine - and again there is the issue of balance there. I think they have reported Roger Waters opposition to Israeli violence - though I'm sure the bias shows through and there wouldn't be BBC celebs joining in with him!
