I think there's a not very 'sub' subtext at work here. It's not really, call me a cynic, about protecting individual journalists, but protecting corporate journalism from 'attacks' by critics. To do that effectively one needs 'martyrs' or 'saints' who supposedly are in danger and who personify all that's best and holy within the corporate media 'church of truth.' Only who defines the 'Truth'? What about the rights of 'heretics' like Assange? Will Cloony immediately visit Assange in his embassy dungeon and speak out for his rights? Isn't he the world's leading prisoner of concience and the most attacked journalist/publisher in the entire world? A perfect example of someone who Cloony should be publically defending? Only that would require her to stand up to the US Government the raving politicians in the US, both of the great factions; only this is impossible as her own husband is vocal and partisan supporter of the Democratic faction, which hates Assange as much as the Republican faction.
