For John Monro: the Guardian's unremitting nastiness to and about Julian AssangeArchived Message

John, in a three below you asked why the Guardian is so unremittingly nasty to and about Julian Assange. FWIW, these are my thoughts which I've posted here rather than on the original thread which has started to slip down the Board.
I think it's largely about money. The Guardian has determined that its financial future lies in the US and to that end it has attached itself to a wing of the Democrat party - the wing that's over-concerned with identity politics and under-concerned with economic issues that might benefit the 90% to 99% (which may be the whole party).
This wing and, therefore, the Guardian, believes in the divine right of St Hilary de Clinton to ascend the steps of Airforce One. And who cheated Our Lady of the Sorrows out of the White House? That would be Julian Assange. So the Americans want him - he's 'our property now' as one Senator or Congressman said on hearing of Assange's arrest and the Guardian wants to be seen as standing with them.
Of course it's tricky since if Assange is extradited and successfully prosecuted, then any journalist based in the UK who has published Wikileaks' material could face the same fate. The Guardian undoubtedly knows the risks but they really want to establish their anti-Assange credentials in US eyes.
