Oh, Rhisiart, why did I bother, idiocy is repeating the same thing and expecting a different result each time. Repeat, space ship to Earth One, Andrew Wakefield is a bogus practitioner, a cynical manipulator and a literally a dangerous man, who should be in prison, or muzzled somehow or other. He is directly responsible for the deaths of many children and the unnecessary illnesses of tens of thousands of others. I don't know what little poisonous meme has inserted itself into your brain for you to believe anything good or reasonable about this man. There is NO ASSOCIATION between MMR vaccine and autism and bowel disease. You are guilty of conflating two disparate matters - one, profiteering by drug companies and two the scientific evidence of the overwhelming benefits of immunisation. The fact that your hated drug companies produce vital and reliable vaccines is totally discounted by you, but there's no logical or actual incompatibility in this fact. Profiteering by pharmaceutical companies needs to be dealt with in its own way not by discounting established medical science. In addition you seem to have a fixation about immunisation which is actually one of the least profitable parts of most drug companies' activities. Why not latch on more to the extortion of cancer or rare disease treatments? Now there is the more obvious rort. For instance treatments developed for Spinal Muscular Atrophy - such as Zolgesma, US$450,000 per annum for five years. Or Kymriah for treating certain forms of leukaemia, US4750,00 too. Or ipilumab for metastatic melanoma around €150,000 for just four cycles of treatment. The list goes on. Now SMA prevalence is around 1/10,000 live births. Now there are 3.8 million births annually in the US. So the number of cases of SMA is around 380. Each affected child will then represent a cost of around US$2 million, multiplied by 380 = US$760 million per annum in sales. For sales around the rich world you could treble this figure. The profit from this drug will be astounding as no drug costs anything like this to develop or manufacture. There is no relationship between these costs and the prices charged. In addition, quite a lot of the original research was done in academic and medical institutions, government funded. All these new treatment modalities using genetically modified immune system drugs or similar are priced at the maximum that the drug companies think they can "get away with". in other words, they're telling the patients and their families and their governments "what's your life worth and what are you prepared to pay to prolong it (for mostly these drugs are not curative, though a few may be)?" The drug companies are manipulative and will make sure that such dramatic and heart-wrenching cases are publicised and heard on the radio or TV, to maximise pressure on governments to fund their product. What government wishes to be known for refusing to treat such deserving cases? This rort really does need urgently dealing with, rather more than your single-minded and unscientific attack on immunisation. Cheers. |
