Well, it doesn't quite work like that in Sweden. The proceedings won't be 'secret' as such, but the system is very different from the US/UK. It's less of a battle to convince a jury one way or another. The system is supposed to be about both parties, the prosecution and the defence and the Judges, attempting to find out what really happened, the guilt or innocence of the accused. If Assange was to be charged, which seems unlikely at this stage, the trial would be about the biggest thing to happen in Sweden ever. So the courts would be accutely aware of just how much the reputation of Sweden could be damaged if the trial was in any way seen to be 'unfair' or tampered with politically. This is probably why, on balance, it would be better and less 'risky' for the Swedes not to go that far in the first place. So, rather than a trial where Assange is found not guilty because the case is so weak against him, my evaluation is that he won't be charged and there won't be a trial. After all this time this ammounts to flogging a dead horse.
