example - quantum mechanics, where the most persuasive interpretation that I've seen so far is very far from what gut-felt common-sense suggests. Descartes too had great difficulty with being fully confident about what, if anything, he could cogito for sure... Also, direct, unambiguous witnessing of paranormal events tends to lessen our 'certainties' about what is and isn't possible. Just a few thoughts; though yes, common sense and gut feeling are indeed our daily touchstones, in practice; and that's right enough. Cheers, M!
