Among the possibilities, keep an open mind, but rank them according to what you consider to be probabilities. You can continuously revise those probabilities in your mind, in the light of new information. There is no absolute certainty, but there is "getting closer to the truth" - which requires hard work.It is worth the effort, and in fact few things are more worthwhile.
