"In the period since Snowden, The Guardian has lost many of its top investigative reporters who had covered national security issues, notably Shiv Malik, Nick Davies, David Leigh, Richard Norton-Taylor, Ewen MacAskill and Ian Cobain. The few journalists who were replaced were succeeded by less experienced reporters with apparently less commitment to exposing the security state. " There are worse in the Guardian but when I used to peruse the Guardian up to a decade or so ago, the sight of any of these names at the head of a story would not trigger a feeling of anticipation that the security state would be exposed. For this to be lamented shows how bad it has become now, but it wasn't great in the years before 2013.
