There is no Statute of Limitations for putting your hand on a woman's knee; you may have offended 10, 15 or 20 years ago but it will still be used against you. Make an ass of yourself when a student or at a party or when drunk? Or all three? Well, it's out there forever and can and will be used against you. Use the wrong pronoun when referring to a trans-gender individual? Shame on you! Don't think that a biological male can, in fact, become a woman? Hanging's too good. Suggest that due process shouldn't be abandoned in cases of sexual assault? Shame on you! Suggest that even a person accused of a sexual offence is entitled to a defence and you could lose your chair if you're a professor of law. Suggest anything, in fact, that someone, somewhere takes offence at and you could, all too easily, lose your job and be so damaged that your career in a given field is over. There is a growing list of people who've had their livelihoods destroyed solely because they've offended professional offence-takers.
