Not only 'woke' culture, but hegemonic culture, too Archived Message

You make apposite points there, Sue. It (partly) boils down - in the public sphere where perceptions are shaped - to language use and who gets to use which words and which words are sanctioned and which are shunned. Aside from 'woke' (which focuses on identity), look at political or 'USUK-sanctioned' language: note how the phrase 'international law' now transgresses the new norm, which is "rule of law". Those who talk of international law in relation to human rights and legal rights are now ignored by the US and the UK (at UN level, in particular, and also at other key fora) as they push the substitute phrase "rule of law"... which basically means "the laws we pick, choose and formulate in order to rule you". Just by re-phrasing and re-framing they now traduce and side-line international law - left, right and centre.
