This tragedy is already being used to push the idea of the police being permanently armed, even though it would have made not a jot of difference in this instance and besides which, all reports are praising the swift response of whichever unit is responsible for dealing with such issues. It was argued though, that for those towns and cities that don't have such close-by armed response units, it could have been much worse. (Although probably not given that the public had it sorted and that the bomb was a hoax.) One thing I thought quite telling amongst all the terrorist talk, was some influential police bloke, Norman someone or other, saying that such people were mentally ill. As to the GE timing and similarities with 2017, they've got that covered too, with Oxford academic research showing that violent attacks do increase during significant events such as a general election. Reasons given are, as you would expect, disrupting the democratic process, a greater impact/notoriety, GE debates pushing perp over the edge etc., etc. and all of which does make perfect sense. Not sure why, when reports suggest that the public had disarmed him and had him pinned down, why the police dragged them off and shot the guy. Their argument is the apparent bomb belt. Why would someone wear a fake bomb belt when they know it'll get them killed? Again, covered; it's a suicide mission and they would rather die than go to prison. Again, that's pretty plausible, although if there is something more nefarious going on, so is the argument that a fake bomb belt limits casualties and justifies the killing. Criticisms of the police and the way they handled it? Covered! Numerous establishment figures were preempting that yesterday on the radio in the ways you would expect. I'm bound to say, if I'm up in London with my kids and some bloke is wielding knives and wearing a potential bomb belt, he needs to be stopped by whatever means. If I want that for my family's safety, I should want it for others too. All other arguments are separate. I'm not keen on jumping to 'false flag' conclusions every time there's such an outrage, although I'd be interested to hear what those that tackled him have to say about the bomb belt.
