"Some animals are killed on site, with bolt guns (dying cows, some chickens and turkeys etc). It varies." I have several deer farms around me. Because they are still classed as wild animals they can be and indeed are shot in the field: a land-rover slowly drives through, the chosen animal is shot & falls & the herd then continue grazing. No distress, no transporting, no slaughterhouse. Unlike those in the wild they also have little disease, no bot or warble fly larvae driving them crazy or eating them alive and they don't starve to death in the winter either.
