He said he thought it likely Iran would announce it had shot down the plane purely on the basis that they said they were to make an announcement tomorrow. Of course the tragedy is not Iran's here but the families of the dead on the plane. He then said he was disgusted at the West and the western media for weaponising this accident (if that is that's what it turns out to have been) - having recently murdered (he got that word in) its top military commander. The BBC sleazeball tried and failed to cut him off a few times. And the context that Trump recently threatened to obliterate Iran, and more recently just bomb it a lot and destroy its historical cultural hardware. And in the past had shot down an Iranian airliner, and blamed Iran for that at the time, and stalled many years in admitting, and then paid paltry compensation. Esler (was that him?) didn't like that one bit. He did well, that's the most radical thing I heard on Newsnight since the days Hanan Ashrawi was on often as a Palestinian rep. a long time ago.
