Name just ONE "investigation" she did that bothered the establishment Archived Message

The few times I saw it the show was a toothless hoax of "investigative journalism" -- lots of sound and fury signifying nowt. Derbyshire is good at this, creating a fuss ("let's have a heated debate" in Mrs Merton's words) but threatening no one in power and staying nice and safe within the Overton window. But one way the BBC could save a goodly portion of that £80m is not sending out local reporters late at night to stand outside a closed and darkened building -- a factory or the magistrates court -- in a pathetic attempt to inject some topical urgency into the story. I once emailed our local BBC reporter Dave Guest in the north-west and asked him, poor slob, why they have him traipsing up to Barrow-in-Furness at 10.30 at night to do a live 30-second piece to camera and then get back home at two in the morning. His reply (and fair play to him, Dave does usually reply to emails) was a rather terse and embarrassing "You'll have to ask my editor that question." Gawd, they really do think we're brainless saps.
