Here in Ireland where I have returned, I applied for the €350 emergency payment as self-employed last Thursday and it was paid into my account today, Wednesday along with everybody else - unless you made mistakes in the form. Brazil where I used to live, is in chaos with the lunatic Bolsonaro who has been trying to follow Trump in denial, referring to covid-19 as a little flu, and ordering people to go back to work in the face of the various regional state government instructions to stay at home. Pitifully low payments for workers are being held up by political wrangling and the Chinese have said they won't be able to deliver even hospital beds until June. You might think it would be possible for a country the size of Brazil to be able to produce its own hospital beds in short order - but that's where neoliberal outsourcing has left us. As a further example, here in Ireland, there is not one working mill in the country anymore and all flour is imported.
