As for where to do it, I was just thinking about the most solid thing to lock yourself to. If there's something metal and well embedded out front that would be best for exposure as you note, but then you run the risk of leaving the dwelling unguarded as well as potentially being stuck outside all night. Difficult one... Shows the dangers of opposing the system on your own without a group organising on your behalf. But I get the impression that's where most of us have been left at this point (some more than others of course - I don't expect the genteel middle-class neighbourhood where I am currently will be the first to face evictions somehow).
