When right wing MPs - the same neoliberal votaries who have been destroying support systems for the mentally ill and who had been dead set against leagalizing cannabis for decades - start advocating free access to recreational drugs you can be pretty sure the people's mental health is the last thing on their minds. Same as state-guaranteed easy access to alcohol which is being delivered to people's doors during the lockdown. This is about creating a more compliant population and trying to ensure its continued passivity in the face of even greater injustices to come. Of course whether such substances do or can have lasting medicinal benefits is a separate question.
