unknown new pathogen: be ready - Nightingales and all - in case it gets much worse very quickly, as epidemiologists know can happen. Nothing wrong with that at all, when planners had no real idea what they were facing. It falls into the necessary category, when dealing with something new and unknown, of 'try anything that might work, watch and assess carefully as a running process, and always err on the side of caution'. Textbook right strategy. Meanwhile, the unfolding picture, with its rapidly-clarifying sense of what's actually happened, suggests that - mercifully - it isn't turning out to be quite such a disastrous epidemic as was feared. Still bad enough, though. As bad as a bad flu season; possibly worse. And the fat lady still hasn't sung. The whole story is still not yet clear. So - continued vigilance and readiness still required. And - er - it's also becoming clearer that there has indeed been quite a bit of skulduggery in the way of seizing dictatorial powers and watching how people will accept it when terrified enough by all the obedient media shrieking. Also, grab the chance to funnel yet more loot to the rich minority under the smokescreen of dealing with the crisis. Also, as a matter of cruel realism, wilfully letting the curfew push lots of small businesses into closure, thus generating rich, ultra-cheap pickings for the big vultures - who've insulated themselves from crashing by the well-documented process of socialism-for-the-rich: the latest bout of loot-funnelling: Not letting a real crisis go to waste, in the business of being a gangster-capitalist main-chancer. It gets clearer that ALL these processes are in play. No need to turn it into an 'either/or' bifurcation, with people arguing with fear-driven over-passionate vituperation about which strand is 'the only' right one. They're all there in the mix. AKA - wait-and-see...
